Pigeon Island National Landmark - Home of Saint Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival, Pigeon Island National Landmark is one of the Caribbean’s most historic landmarks and certainly one of the most beautiful spots in Saint Lucia. Connected to the mainland by a causeway and surrounded by the Caribbean Sea, Pigeon Island National Landmark serves as the ideal venue for the Saint Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival main stage event dubbed “Amidst the Ruins”. While its rich history dates back to the pre-Columbian times, Pigeon Island National Landmark is most famous for its role in the 1782 Battle of the Saints. Patrons to this venue will want to explore its 44 acres of sloping grasslands, dry tropical forests, beaches and twin peaks, wandering around its landscape and taking hikes up to the Fort Rodney to see where the Atlantic Ocean joins the Caribbean Sea. Many entertainers have said that this is the most beautiful venue that they have ever performed at and many have returned.

From main stage Pigeon Island performances to rustic village open-air concerts, each component of the event finds a unique home in and around Saint Lucia.
For die hard jazz aficionados looking for the true sole of the festival nowhere is quite as mystical as the magic of the Gaiety on Rodney Bay. This intimate indoor/outdoor facility provides the perfect melting pot for lovers of straight ahead jazz to muse over sultry sounds, whilst basking in a cabaret style sophisticated setting.
Over the years the Gaiety on Rodney Bay has served as the perfect background to showcase global acts like Acoustic Alchemy, Stanley Jordan, Pharoah Sanders, Mario Canonge, Andy Narell, Etienne Charles, Augustin “Jab” Duplessis featuring Derede Williams and Joshua Redman to name just a few. In 2014 the facility will present another heart stopping jazz concert when DeeDee Bridgewater and Omar Sosa take centre stage.
Events Endorsed by the Saint Lucia Tourist Board
In 1994 when the organizing committee of the first Saint Lucia Jazz Festival decided that free daytime entertainment would be a nice touch, they never envisaged that these very events would have grown so much in popularity that they would seem even as rivals of the main festival in size and diversity.
In the early years, these activities were vastly limited to Castries; that is after a disastrous attempt at a straight ahead jazz concert in Soufriere. The local audience was having no part of acclaimed jazz pianist Terrence Blanchard not even for free. That jazz stuff was too esoteric. This led to a re-think of the free concert and village jazz idea and as the years went by the “Fringe” events now more fittingly referred to as Supporting Saint Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival events were born.
Jazz on the Square at The Derek Walcott Square
A series of lunch time concerts with a festive atmosphere of music, food and merriment, Jazz on the square has become synonymous with the Saint Lucia Jazz & Arts Fesitval. Located in the heart of the City of Castries at the picturesque square named after Derek Walcott, the island Nobel Laureat for Literature, 1993.
Fire Grill Jazz
This close-contact-stage jazz event was birthed in 2008 with the initial desire to bring people to the then newly opened restaurant, Fire Grill Steakhouse & Lounge bar in Rodney Bay. It was conceptualized by Chef Bobo Bergstrom and Peter Byrne who hired some of the best jazz musicians for the job. After the first year’s tremendous success the well-organized 8 days long Jazz on the Grill dinner time jazz event has grown to be the largest free jazz event on the island. At Fire Grill you can enjoy true jazz while you dine in the restaurant or hang in the bar.
The week is filled with a line-up of local and international jazz artists and also hosts 4 days of St Lucia Jamz, featuring many artists performing on other stages around the island during St. Lucia Jazz. Since 2010 Jazz on the Grill is part of the Saint Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival official programme. The final, roof blowing Encore jam session, on Monday after the Pigeon Island main event is a night no one would want to miss out.The event is also a major fundraiser with an auction where all proceedings go to St. Lucia School of music.
